Eye on China, House Votes for Greater Tariff

Powers
By David E Sanger

This past week the house of representatives has past a tariff on Chinese goods in retaliation to Beijing not lowering there value in currency In order for it can be cheaper for America to export the items. The bills vote went as recorded 348 to 79 most of favor of it and though the votes were clearly in favor of it the likely hood of it becoming a law is very slim seeing that the senate is not in favor of it. Also the treasury stated that the avoiding of a trade off war will not be a smart idea seeing that this could lead in china fully blocking there goods from America
I think the headline is great I feel it gets straight to the point and lays the subject flat out for the reader with House votes for greater tariffs it doesn’t leave the reader in the mist. The lead is who/what lead because though it states that the house of representatives are the ones responsible for the tariffs it also includes the fact of what their approving which is the tariffs. It also has a drawn in effect on the reader because it not only describes what is happing but also who is doing it. The story had many sources from president Obama who was in favor of the rule along with house speaker Nancy Pelosi. They also had Chinese prime minister Wen Jiabao who met with Obama to discuss the issue. Though the sources were reliable and were strong I still think it needed a store owner’s opinion to see how this would affect the sales of his products. And to accommodate to the source a graphical chart that shows how the deficit will add on to the recession we are facing now.

  1. I think this is a good article because acts like these are what can begin tensions between countries. I don't think it's a good idea for the U.S. to place a tax on Chinese goods just because Beijing won't lower the value of their currency. I also agree that the article should include store owners' opninion because this tax also effects them.
