"Girl, 14, Charged in Baltimore Killing" The Associated Press. The Washington Post.
I think that the headline of the story was eye-catching because I find it rare that a fourteen year old girl is charged of killing someone. The headline works well with the story because it describes what the story is about. The headline tells the reader that the story is going to be about a girl who is charged with murder crimes.
The lead was very effective because it summarized the content of the story. The story has a "what" lead because the lead tells the reader what is happening. The sources of the article are the Baltimore police and the Baltimore police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi. However, I do think that more things could have been added to the story. I think that people who witnessed the shooting should have been interviewed. I also think that possible reasons that account for the girl's aggressive behavior could have been included. Such information could have informed readers of sociol psychological reasons that made a young girl shoot two men.
This story is newsworthy because it appeals to human interest. It is odd to hear about a young girl to be charged as an adult with first degree murder. Even though shootings and murder are issues of interest, the story was more interesting being that the murderer was not an adult but a fourteen year old girl.
I think this story is appalling and shocking. I selected this article because I had never heard of a girl shooting two men. It was shocking to hear that a girl so young could commit such a large, dangerous crime.
